Objectives
- Alert teachers about possible signals of radicalisation
- Focus their attention on the fact that these signals must be considered with precaution, because of dissimulation strategies, and because a single change in behaviour is not always synonymous with violent behaviour.
Description
This description of radicalisation indicators includes a categorisation of indicators across four areas: breaking-off, personal environment, theories and speeches, and techniques and strategies used.
For each of the areas, examples of strong signals and weaker signals are presented.
The issue needs to be approached carefully: a learner showing several signals is not necessarily developing a process of violent radicalisation, and vice versa, strategies of dissimulation are becoming increasingly sophisticated, guided by the advice of online recruiters.
